Spicejet pilot fired for sexual harassment of flight attendant

A senior pilot at Spicejet has been fired for alleged sexual harassment of a female flight attendant.

An internal complaint committee found the pilot guilty of misconduct after forcing the flight attendant to enter the cockpit on each leg of a round trip Kolkata-Bangkok flight in February.

The pilot also reportedly ordered the co-pilot leave the cockpit on both occasions.

The incident came to light after the pilot directed ‘abusive language’ toward a senior member of the cabin crew which prompted the flight attendant to make an official complaint to airline bosses.

"With respect to the case, we wish to inform that we have an internal complaint committee in place which is mandated by the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act," a SpiceJet statement said.

"We initiated the inquiry process as per the guidelines laid in the said Act."

After sacking the commander-level pilot Spicejet informed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation which is also looking into the incident.
