Stranded Stena Line ferry to try to dock at midday
A Stena Line ferry, which has been stranded at sea since yesterday, will make another attempt to dock in the Welsh port of Fishguard today.
The ferry, with 87 passengers and 59 crew on board, left Rosslare in Ireland at 9am on Monday but high winds and rough seas prevented it from docking as planned yesterday.
After making two failed attempts to reach the port, the captain decided to shelter overnight off Cardigan.
A Stena Line spokeswoman said the captain of the ferry has departed for Fishguard again this morning and will assess the situation at 10am. He is hoping to dock around midday.
She said the wind had died down somewhat and the ferry might be able to dock earlier than expected.
The line said a compensation policy was in place and all passengers were being looked after.
Other services on the Holyhead to Dublin crossing are operating with severe delays today due to the bad weather and passengers are advised to check departure times before heading to the ports.
