Strategic dumps Port Hedland-Bali route
Strategic Airlines is is pulling out of its Port Hedland-Bali route from March 23, claiming it is not commercially viable due to security restrictions.
The airline has been in a dispute about border control infrastructure in Port Hedland that prevents it from selling more than 100 seats per flight on its 156-seat A320.
Head of commercial Damien Vasta said the airline had been aware of the capacity cap when it began flying the route but had been confident improvements could be made to allow more traffic through the airport.
“Unfortunately, after a six-month review, we understand this is not possible,” he said. “Therefore, regrettably, it is no longer commercially viable to dedicate an aircraft on the route.”
Strategic’s Port Hedland-Brisbane service is not affected.
