Strong performances by industry shares
There were some impressive performances by travel and tourism shares yesterday as London’s main equity indices surged ahead.
The FTSE 100 index added 48.7 points to end the day at 4350.2, while the FTSE 250 gained 24.3 points to close at 5881.6.
British Airways added 8.5p to close at 216.25p as global oil prices dropped slightly, while P&O gained 9.75p to close at 233p after the Swiss broker UBS upgraded the stock to a “buy”.
Other strong performers in the sector included ebookers, which added 17.5p to 140p after reporting encouraging results. Lastminute.com had a similar day, adding 7p to 111.5p.
