Strong year for Territory tourism
Latest tourist accommodation results for the Northern Territory are pointing to a strong year for the industry.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures for the March 2006 quarter showed a 6.5 percent growth in guest nights compared to the same period a year earlier.
The survey also showed a 4.7 percent increase in the number of room nights and a 2.3 percent increase in accommodation takings in the NT for the same period.
“Accommodation takings, room occupancy and guest nights are consistently heading in the right direction and we will continue to build on this in what promises to be a good year for tourism in the Northern Territory,” Chief executive of Tourism NT, Maree Tetlow, said.
“The signs are very positive – the additional Ghan service into Darwin and the success of Territory Discoveries’ ‘NT on Sale’ campaign, that was targeted to boost visitors in the shoulder and low seasons, are all contributing to making the Territory an all-year-round tourist destination.”
