Thailand launches WeChat channel to woo more Chinese travellers
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to further boost its leading position as a tourism hotspot for Chinese travellers.
It has rolled out an official WeChat ‘Visit Thailand’ application.
It offers updated travel news and assistance to Chinese tourists along with image, voice and video sharing options.
TAT will add regular real-time updates for attractions, accommodation options, dining and Thai experiences curated from TAT marketing campaigns.
"The Chinese travel market is cut off and very different. It is vital, as the country’s whole online ecosystem is effectively the largest closed ‘intranet’ in the world. WeChat ‘Visit Thailand’ levels the playing field, giving Chinese tourists a preferred communication tool they trust in their native Mandarin dialect," said Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT governor.
It is accessible in Thailand and China and offers a round-the-clock text chat function to TAT’s tourism helpdesk.
WeChat is China’s most popular social media app with nearly 900 million active users.
