Thailand puts recovery plan into place
Thailand has put together a short term marketing plan as tourism to the country showed recovery in May.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said UK visitors were up 7% to 407,699 between January and May, compared to the same period in 2013, with a 14.9% jump in May to 66,251.
Joanna Cooke of TAT said: "This is very encouraging, however, our hard work must continue to ensure that forward bookings are not affected and to maintain increased visitor arrivals throughout the summer months.
"In order to achieve this we have put together the following short term recovery plan."
The tourism body is planning a fam trip with Thai Airways with 17 key tour operators and agents from the UK.
In total, it plans to bring 1,000 travel trade and media guests globally to the country so they can “see the situation for themselves in Bangkok and nationwide”.
TAT will also run joint marketing campaigns with three key tour operators, who are yet to be confirmed, plus a campaign with Etihad Airways and Etihad Holidays.
It also aims to boost consumer confidence through a nationwide UK radio campaign.
