The new Thai Prime Minister and tourism officials have assured travellers Thailand is safe to visit.

It comes a day after a shopping mall shooting in Bangkok killed two people.

Another five people were injured.

It happened at Siam Paragon, which is popular among tourists.

One of the dead was a Chinese woman.

The suspected shooter is just 14 years old.

PM Srettha Thavisin said safety measures will be implemented to keep visitors and locals safer.

This will include tighter security at public places like shopping malls.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said measures will be taken to restore confidence.

It is too soon to say what effect on tourism the shooting will have.

The incident has already hit travel stocks.

China is Thailand’s largest market and the shooting comes just after it granted visa free entry to Chinese nationals.
