On December 19, 20 and 21, A Christmas Dream returns to Thalia Mara Auditorium, Jackson, MS. Labeled a “holiday staple” by the press, and Ballet Magnificat!’s 23rd annual Christmas performance in it’s hometown, A Christmas Dream is this season’s ultimate Christmas experience for the entire family.

Introduced in 2006 and set to the music of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, this traditional Christmas ballet takes on a new direction as Choreographer Kathy Thibodeaux, Silver Medalist II International USA IBC, creates a full-length ballet filled with the majesty of a Christmas party scene, the delightful antics of life-like dolls, drama and suspense as angels battle fly-like creatures, the grandeur of heaven and Jesus on His throne, and a stage filled with a multitude of leaping, twirling professional dancers. Packed houses in 2006 and 2007 have enjoyed the beauty of over 300 stunning costumes and breath-taking sets, backdrops, and choreography.

Group tour planners have called the production “brilliant”, “stunning”, and “moving”. “It was beautiful! I had never seen so much immaculate motion. The music, the sets, the experience itself were something for which I was completely unprepared,” was among last year’s post-performance emails.

A Christmas Dream tells the story of a young girl, Katherine, who receives a special Bible from her missionary grandfather and then falls asleep and has a dream. In her dream, Belzebub and his horde battle to steal the Word of God from her heart, but she is rescued by the Archangel Michael and the Heavenly Hosts who whisk her up to Heaven in a golden chariot where she sits on the throne with Jesus and watches all of creation celebrate before Him: angels big and small, butterflies and bumblebees, nations of the world, and dancers of all fashion. Katherine dances a paus de deux with Jesus who bestows on her the Crown of Life before she awakens to realize that Jesus is truly the most special gift of all.

Joining Kathy on stage for this monumental production will be over 150 dancers which include Ballet Magnificat! Alpha and Omega companies, two Ballet Magnificat! Trainee companies, and students from the School of the Arts.

Ballet Magnificat!, founded in 1986 and Mississippi’s only professional ballet company, is known around the world as the benchmark for professional Christian dance. They travel the globe each year proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ through dance.
