Thomas Cook halts Red Sea excursion after fatal bomb attack
Thomas Cook has ceased tours to St Catherine’s Monastery from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh following a fatal bomb attack on a tour bus at the weekend.
Other tour operators – including Hayes & Jarvis – are continuing to offer the day trips as the British Foreign Office has not warned against travel to the monastery where three South Koreans were killed in the explosion on Sunday.
Thomas Cook told the Daily Telegraph it was continuing to sell holidays to Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada, also on the Red Sea, but that it had halted excursions to St Catherine’s Monastery "as a precaution".
The tour operator revealed last week that it had lost £15 million of bookings to Egypt in the three months to the end of December due to the political unrest in the country.
