Thomson adds Dreamliner flights to Caribbean island
Thomson and First Choice have confirmed they will add direct Dreamliner flights from Glasgow Airport to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for summer 2014.
The new weekly service to the Caribbean island will start on May 1 and will run throughout the summer season.
It is the first time for two years Glasgow will have direct flights to the Dominican Republic, which will be the third long-haul destination served from Glasgow by Thomson Dreamliner. They currently fly to Orlando and Cancun from the airport.
Thomson said 97% of passengers who flew on its inaugural 787 flight on July 8 rated their experience as "excellent" or "good".
Paul Cooper, airport negotiations manager for Thomson and First Choice, said:"Adding the extra capacity and the introduction of the Thomson 787 Dreamliner demonstrates the importance of Glasgow Airport and the local area to our business, and following the success of similar routes across a number of regional airports, we know that the demand is there.
"Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy. We hope that this move will enhance the holiday experience for our customers and that they are as excited as we are about the new 787 Dreamliner."
The tour operator will also be adding extra weekly flights to Kos, Rhodes, Zante and Majorca and new 10 and 11-night durations to Gran Canaria from Glasgow.
