Low-cost carrier Jetstar has played an important role building tourism growth in regional areas, according to peak industry group TTF Australia (Tourism and Transport Forum).
TTF Australia Managing Director Christopher Brown said regional areas including Cairns, Mackay, Townsville, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Victoria’s Great Ocean Road and Launceston had all benefited from the introduction of Jetstar services“
In just a few years, low-cost carriers such as Jetstar have revolutionised domestic tourism with places that are well-serviced by low-cost operators have seen a surge in both visitors and tourism investment.
“Australians are doing the sums, and seeing the value of low-cost carriers. “And investors are seeing the increased demand at regional hotspots, and investing money into accommodation, restaurants, cafes and other attractions.”
Mr Brown said the results of Galaxy research conducted for Jetstar showed that
perceptions of air travel had changed significantly over the past three years
“The nature of the great Australian family holiday has changed.” “Fewer people are packing up the family station wagon, they are looking further afield, and leaving the car keys at home.”
“And they are seeing new opportunities to spend time with friends and families in other
states.
“Jetstar has also opening up new international markets, such as Bangkok, Ho Chi Min City, Phuket, Singapore, Hong Kong, Phnom Penh and Taipei.”
