Japan’s ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism announced Tokyo’s Haneda airport will receive a major upgrade ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games.
Japan expects a big surge in arrivals for the Games.
The transport ministry said Terminal 2, used mostly for domestic flights, will be upgraded with immigration and customs checkpoints for international arrivals.
It will also include duty-free shops and lounges in the departure hall while an adjacent extension will be built to accommodate domestic services.
In Terminal 1, which is used predominantly by JAL, will feature more lounges and even an indoor golf driving range, the ministry said.
In total, an extra 500 spaces will be added to the airport’s car parking.
The airport’s current international terminal will be renamed to Terminal 3, the ministry said, as reported by Nikkei Asian Review.
