Tourist kidnappers jailed for life
Four South Africans who kidnapped a British traveller and killed a man who tried to protect her were jailed for life yesterday. As reported by News From Abroad, 30-year-old Julie Stevens was held for 14 hours after being abducted while travelling near the famous Kruger National Park. According to a report in The Independent newspaper today, the judge at the case said the men “acted like a pack of dogs”. After the car Ms Stevens was travelling in crashed, a passer-by from Mozambique tried to help her. He was shot dead by the gang. One of the four was also given another life sentence for raping Ms Stevens. The judge reportedly told the men: “You ripped pieces of their life out of them. You did not only kill an innocent man, but one who extended a helping hand after the accident.”
