Travel insurer makes ski helmets mandatory
A travel insurance firm has made it mandatory for skiers and boarders to wear helmets to benefit from its winter sports cover. Essential Travel said it was responding to requests from customers who felt they should be rewarded for wearing helmets with lower premiums.
Essential Travel’s Stuart Bensusan said: "Whilst it is true that a helmet does not reduce all sports injury, it seriously reduces the risk of potentially fatal injuries. That alone warrants making wearing helmets compulsory, and we choose to completely support safety conscious skiers by rewarding them with reduced premiums and bonus discounts."
The insurance company said as a result of skiers wearing helmets it could offer a 15% discount on winter sports insurance premiums, up to 25% off Neilson Holidays and 10% discounts with various winter sports retailers.
Ski specialist Neilson has a new range of ski and snowboard camps for adults and teens in France, Austria and Andorra this winter. These include free-ride and freestyle courses, technique sessions and women-only tours.
Each course has a maximum group size of eight people and prices start from £200. They are in Les Deux Alpes and Tignes in France, Soldeu and El Tarter in Andorra and in Mayrhofen in Austria.
Andorra Traveller has introduced "ultra all-inclusive" ski packages for next season in an attempt to treble sales. Packages start from £729pppw including flights, transfers, four-star hotel accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, alcoholic drinks from 6pm to 8pm and during evening meals, ski rental, lift pass and tuition.
