Small gains for industry shares as markets move ahead
It was a quiet day for travel industry shares yesterday as London’s equity markets moved ahead. The FTSE 100 index gained 0.6 per cent of its value to close 24.8 points ahead at 4272.1, while the broader-based FTSE 250 put on 19.9 points to close at 5533.4. The building sector, as well as oil and mineral companies, performed particularly well on a day when two billion shares changed hands.
Airlines enjoyed mixed fortunes; British Airways gained 4p to close at 179.5p, EasyJet added 1.5p for a 242.5p finish, and Ryanair added 3.5p to close at 431.5p. Among the retailers, ebookers added half a penny to close at 575p, and lastminute.com was static at 263.5p. First Choice Holidays lost 3p to close at 115p, while MyTravel ended the day at 27.5p, up 1.25p.
