TTF says QLD tourism review a winner
Queensland tourism will benefit from a streamlining of the state’s tourism network, according to peak industry group, Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).
TTF’s National Manager, Tourism, Caroline Wilkie has welcomed the outcome of the independent statewide review and the new structure it recommends.
“The Queensland tourism industry faces a challenging task ahead in maintaining visitation to the state,†Ms Wilkie said.
“Rising fuel costs, exchange rates and changing consumer preferences of our major inbound markets will all continue to have flow-on effects for the Queensland tourism industry.”
“It is critical, now more than ever, that Queensland has the necessary foundations to deliver solid tourism marketing and product development to most effectively promote the state to international and domestic visitors.”
“The $3 million funding for investment in tourism product in partnership with local operators is a more practical and useful way to support businesses on the ground.â€
Ms Wilkie said the changes announced today by Queensland Tourism Minister Desley Boyle are welcomed by industry.
“It is evident that there must be increased focus on developing product and supply to meet the demands of visitors. We believe the announced strategy today goes a long way to meeting these needs,†Ms Wilkie said.
“TTF is confident the announced changes, which will see representatives from the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry based within regions, will lead to increased private investment and to more productive partnerships between tourism operators/owners and the Government.”
“Consolidation of some of Queensland’s Regional Tourism Offices (RTOs) is now necessary to ensure that the industry has the strongest players representing the state.”
“The existence of smaller RTOs which lack the knowledge, expertise and funding to viably promote their region will only dilute the final tourism offering the state offers potential visitors.”
“We hope to see further consolidation of some smaller regional tourism organisations as this process progresses.”
“The announcement today gives Tourism Queensland a more clearly defined role with resources being focussed marketing the state.â€
