Tucan Travel Reveal Their Adventure Traveller of Today
Tucan Travel is pleased to announce a strong response to the consumer survey that was mailed to their client database with the release of their brochure in November 2006, with the company now able to paint an accurate profile of their typical adventure traveller.
Tucan Travel’s Sales & Marketing Manager Richard Leonard said the company was very pleased with the high response and attention to detail consumers used when answering their questions, adding, “People took time and effort to contemplate a diverse range of answers, in turn providing valuable insights into today’s adventure traveller.”
In terms of age, 34% of all respondents were aged from 26-34, and 27% were aged over 50, indicating the ‘baby boomer’ generation are just as active a travelling group as young travellers.”
The medium income of respondents was mid-range, signifying that adventure travel is attainable not only for high-income earners but also more so for the average income earner.
The time spent abroad tended to be at least 4-6 weeks, with a massive 75% of respondents in this bracket. Interestingly, 12% claimed to travel for over 3 months at a time. All clients claimed to travel every year or, at worst, two years, with the majority having visited Latin America in the past three years and being keen to return. “More respondents claimed they wanted to return to Central and South America over Europe, which is definitely significant to Latin America’s growing popularity in the industry.
The survey revealed that internet is a major key player in travel research. People are comfortable researching online but also use other tools to back this up, such as travel magazines, weekend newspapers, with travel brochures being lower on the list.
Price, value for money and the reputation of the operator were the key factors that influence our clients’ decision to book.
“We found it very interesting that 40% of our clients heard about Tucan Travel from a travel agent, but only 9% based their decision to book on an agent. We believe this figure will rise now that we have our own Sales Executives out there educating the agents.
“We hope to use this information as a guide in evolving our way forward in regards to advertising, promotion and consumer needs and wants.”
