TUI cancels holidays in flood hit Lanzarote
Holidaymakers have seen their Easter holidays cancelled at the last minute due to the state of emergency in flood ravaged Lanzarote.
Holiday firm TUI confirmed it has cancelled ‘a small number’ of holidays to the island to inaccessible hotels.
“Due to the lack of alternative accommodation on the island during the busy Easter period we unfortunately had to cancel a small number of holidays.”
Customers will receive a full refund or can amend to another TUI holiday and will receive a ‘re-booking incentive.’
“TUI resort teams are working with the local authorities to find customers currently in impacted hotels, alternative accommodation or return flights back to the UK.”
According to a Foreign Office update, ‘heavy rainfall and flooding particularly affected Costa Teguise, San Bartolomé, and Arrecife.”
“Some hotels are currently without power. Some roads are currently affected by mud. If you are in Lanzarote or travelling to Lanzarote, follow the advice of the local authorities.”
Additionally, Jet2holidays cancelled holidays at three hotels impacted by the floods.
BlueBay Lanzarote and Sands Beach Resort are unable to accept any arrivals at least until today while the Paradisus by Melia Salinas hotel isn’t taking any guest until at least Saturday, 19 April.
Jet2holidays says it has managed to re-accommodate guest at other hotels.
Local media said about 1,500 tourists have been moved to other accommodations due to flood damage.
