TUI to close more high street stores
Citing ‘unprecedented pressure; on the travel industry, and especially for high street sellers, TUI will close 48 travel agencies.
That represents about 13% of its UK retail outlets.
It hasn’t disclosed which locations will close but it will impact 273 jobs.
"The travel industry and the British high street are both facing unprecedented pressure. We can therefore confirm that we are proposing to close 48 retail stores," the company said.
These staff will be offering alternative roles at other agency locations or with homeworking retail and contact centre teams.
"We want to be in the best position to provide excellent customer service, whether it’s in a high street store, over the telephone or online."
"It is therefore imperative that we make these difficult cost decisions and do our best to look after our colleagues," it added.
It closed dozens of high street stores last year and posted a £600 million loss for the October-December quarter.
