Two tourists injured after huge fire in Pattaya bar district
At least two tourists were injured as fire ripped through Thai resort city Pattaya’s popular Walking Street nightlife district.
Dozens of tourists fled in panic after flames rapidly destroyed several bars.
Two tourists were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
Witnesses spoke of hearing a large explosions immediately before the fire took hold, which may have been caused by an electrical fault.
Authorities are still investigating the cause.
"The fire is thought to be caused by a short circuit which led to a transformer explosion. The damage value is about five million baht, but we will have to wait for the evidence before we come to the conclusion of the real cause," said Naris Niwapantawong, sheriff of Pattaya’s Banglamung district.
Walking Street is the entertainment epicentre of Thailand’s notorious ‘Sin City’ and attracts hudreds of revellers nightly.
