UK hotels get £5m cash injection
A £5 million investment has been earmarked for developing Choice Hotels’ branded properties in the UK.
UK-based hotel company CHE Group, which holds the master franchise agreement for Europe from Choice Hotels International for brands Comfort, Quality, Sleep Inn and Clarion, is behind the investment.
The £5 million will be allocated to developing three key areas including acquisition of the leaseholds of six new Sleep Inn ‘ premium budget’ hotels, introducing conference facilities at up to 16 Quality hotels and installing air-conditioning in 1,000 additional rooms across the Quality portfolio.
The group and its franchisees launched a multi-million pound refurbishment programme across its four operating brands in the UK in 2002. Moe than £28 million had been invested by the end of 2003, according to CHE.
Chief executive David Cook said: “The current development plans are another positive indication of the Group’s determination to increase its already growing share of the mid-market and premium budget hotel sectors. These specific development projects were chosen in order to provide our clients with the very best service and value for money and to give the most effective return on investment to our shareholders.”
