United, JetBlue announce ‘Blue Sky’ partnership

United Airlines and JetBlue Airways are teaming up together in a strategic cross selling and loyalty partnership.
The ‘Blue Sky’ partnership would allow United’s MileagePlus and JetBlue’s TrueBlue members to earn and redeem miles on most flights operated by the airlines.
The airlines will extend reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, like priority boarding and free baggage.
The airlines will market each others’ flights and fares on their website and app but won’t coordinate on pricing or network operations.
“United’s global reach perfectly complements JetBlue’s East Coast leisure network, and significantly expands the options and benefits for TrueBlue members,” said Joanna Geraghty, CEO of JetBlue.
“We’re always looking for ways to give our MileagePlus members even more value and benefits and this collaboration gives them new, unique ways,” United CEO Scott Kirby added.
The partnership will also see United return to New York JFK.
JetBlue is giving United slot space for seven round trips a day at New York JFK.
United ended all JFK operations in 2022, focusing instead fully on its Newark Liberty hub.
JetBlue currently has about 180 departures from JFK.
The partnership is subject to regulatory approvals.
