UNWTO rails against blanket travel bans
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has again denounced the introduction of blanket restrictions on travel.
Member countries expressed solidarity with Southern African states, and called for the immediate lifting of travel bans imposed on specific countries.
It cited the unfairness of blanket travel and once again reminded countries that blanket restrictions on travel i are discriminatory and contrary to WHO recommendations.
During the UNWTO General Assembly, Members States reiterated WHO’s advice that travel restrictions should only be imposed as a very last resort.
UNWTO says when restrictions are introduced they must be proportionate, and scientifically based.
It further calls for global cooperation to enable fair and equitable access to vaccines for all nations.
