US Airways bomb threat a Hitchcock-like hoax
It’s a story that reads like a Hitchcock film. An innocent man is framed for something he didn’t do and law enforcements descend on the dupe like avenging angels.
Twenty-nine-year-old business traveler, Christopher Shell had just settled into his seat on US Airlines Flight 1267 from Phildelphia to Dallas on Thursday morning when the flight was turned around and he was led from the flight in handcuffs, with a barrage of bomb sniffing dogs and FBI agents and SWAT teams in tow.
It turns out Shell’s ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend had been involved in a hoax call to officials claiming that Shell had liquid explosives on him. The two were in custody at press time.
FBI officials said that charges filed against the perpetrators of the hoax would be serious and severe.
Thousands of dollars of costs are involved in diverting a flight for security reasons.
