US gas prices: up, up, up
US gasoline costs rose to their highest in almost a year as they neared $3 a gallon, according to the government.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas was up nearly 65 cents from a year ago, said the US Energy Department.
Factors contributing to the higher cost included the threat of another busy hurricane season and strong consumer demand.
“Americans love to drive their cars,” Briefing.com analyst Kimberly DuBord told USA Today.
Gas prices are expected to top $3 a gallon in the near future, say various analysts.
Analysts say so far at least, travel has not been seriously impacted by the rising prices.
