Viator offers Game of Thrones Tours
Cashing in on what has arguably become the hottest (and bloodiest) show on cable TV, San Francisco-based travel company Viator has launched two Game of Thrones tours, one in Belfast and one in Dubrovnik.
Viator already offers Sex and the City tours in New York, Dr. Who tours in Cardiff, and Sopranos tours in New Jersey.
Its Game of Thrones series takes travelers up close to the world of the Targaryens, Baratheons, and Starks, with local guides who know the lore—and some extras from the show who also know the actors.
The Dubrovnik tour visits the city’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, pointing out locations used in the filming of the fictional King’s Landing. Stops include Lovrijenac Fortress, the 11th century castle where many of the show’s battle scenes take place.
The tour runs for three hours and costs $72.
The Northern Ireland Tour in Belfast, meanwhile, runs nine hours and costs about $114, including hotel pick-up.
It visits the caves in Cushendun, where the show’s Melisandre gave birth; Ballycastle, where Varys was born; and the Dark Hedges road down which Ayra Stark escaped from King’s Landing.
The tour also gives visitors time to explore the Giant’s Causeway, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, so even those who are not fans of the show will be enthralled with the scenery.
Viator is planning more Game of Thrones tours in Morocco, Malta, Iceland, and other locations, the company said.
