VisitBritain hunting for America’s soccer superfan

Saturday, 21 Mar, 2017 0
VisitBritain is on the hunt for America’s biggest Premier League soccer fan.

VisitBritain has launched a competition offering an all expenses paid trip the UK to attend a Premier League football match.

It is open to all US based fans who are asked to record a short video explaining why they are the biggest Premier League fan in America.

"The Premier League has a global fan base of billions so this is a fantastic opportunity to promote the energy and excitement of attending a game and exploring our vibrant football cities," said VisitBritain marketing director Clare Mullin.

"The US has some of the most passionate fans in the world and we look forward to bringing the biggest Premier League fan to Britain to experience one of the many amazing football moments."

The competition is being marketed in online channels with the hashtags #SuperFootballFan and #OMGB (Oh My GREAT Britain).

It forms part of the ongoing global campaign #OMGB ‘Home of Amazing Moments’ which highlights unique experiences only found in the UK.

The agency says more than 800,000 international visitors took in a Premier League game during their trip to the UK in 2014, spending more than $800 million.

Between January-September 2016, 2.7 million Americans visited in UK, which is up 3% on the same period a year earlier.

Video entries for VisitBritain’s Premier League competition can be submitted online until 31 March 2017.
