Volcanic eruption grounds Bali flights
Flights are being disrupted across Indonesia, including to and from tourist island Bali, due to hazardous ash clouds from a volcanic eruption.
Mount Lewotobi on the island of Flores has erupted multiple times since late last week.
Qantas, Jetstar, AirAsia, Cathay Pacific, Scoot and Virgin Australia have all cancelled flights.
One of Lewotobi’s eruptions killed 10 people.
A column of ash has reached more than six miles into the atmosphere.
Bali Airport said 24 flights were cancelled on Tuesday.
Flights to and from Lombok were also scrapped.
Indonesia has more than 130 active volcanoes.
“We regret the inconvenience this has caused our passengers, and our team is working hard to ensure all passengers booked on our services get to their destination safely a,” a Virgin Australia spokesperson said.
