More than 5,000 LED bulbs have been fitted to each Eurostar train, which illuminate automatically upon entry into the Channel Tunnel and remain lit for around 20 minutes as the train travels the entire 50km length of the tunnel.
The new technology offers passengers a ‘fish eye’ view of the English Channel, with trials showing a range of marine life are attracted to the cool, blue glow emitted by each passing train.
Eurostar is giving travellers a special 20th anniversary marine life spotter’s guide compiled by the renowned Professor of Marine Biology, Ismell Arat.

Officials have confirmed sighting of a rare marine mammal, thought to be extinct off the coast of St. Pete/Clearwater.
The ‘manaphin’ – half dolphin, half manatee – was recorded by English naturalist Charles Darwin in an 1835 notebook, citing it as an example of one of nature’s "endless forms most beautiful and wonderful."
In the two centuries since Darwin’s encounter, sightings of the creatures have been "extremely rare," according to Clearwater Marine Aquarium researchers, "but not entirely unheard of."
Kayaker Doug Kramer said: "I’ve seen both manatees and dolphins many times. But this was different – the thing moved like a dolphin but had the head of a manatee. It was pretty cool."
Camping specialist Pitchup.com has invented the Spend APPenny app for those caught short in the middle of the night.
The cleverly designed app monitors a camper’s liquid intake and calculates an individual’s bladder movement timings.
It means campers can plan ahead and turn in for the night secure in the knowledge they won’t have to empty their bladder again until morning.
Pitchup.com founder Dan Yates says the app is 99% failsafe, adding: "The Spend APPenny app might seem like a ‘potty’ idea, but the Pitchup.com team have road-tested it and it really works."
Passengers on board CMV cruise ship Marco Polo have been treated to an extremely rare sighting of the Northern Lights during a daytime visit to Amsterdam.
750 passengers were on a ‘Springtime Gardens’ cruise visiting the Dutch city when they witnessed a unique display of one of nature’s natural wonders.
Head of public relations at the Netherlands Unusual Terrestrial Sightings (NUTS), Britt Twolips said: "We are seeking verification and third party photo evidence. However at this stage we feel it is unlikely to affect Dutch tourism with the attractions of our museums and bulbfields likely to remain the main attractions."
Dover-Calais ferry operator, MyFerryLink, has today announced that it is rebranding to MyFerretLink as part of its long term strategy to attract a cuddlier clientele.
The rebranding will extend to all parts of the MyFerretLink business, from the logo and website www.myferretlink.com to the MyFerretLink superferries and check-in desks, where the staff will now be obliged to dress in ferret uniform – complete with face paint.
To celebrate, all ferrets will travel free during April and the first 1,000 bookings for travel between 2 -30 April will receive a cuddly ferret toy at check-in, when using the offer code FERRET.
Robin Wilkins, managing director of MyFerretLink, said: "It was a natural progression for the company, since ferrets are hard working, speedy, friendly and intelligent – just like us! Plus, a group of ferrets is known as a business, and we certainly mean it!"
