Winter season airlift increases to Lanzarote
Turismo Lanzarote issued a destination update with positive signs of a strong winter season ahead.
The update revealed that 85% of the hotels on the island have reopened for the winter season according to ASOLAN, Lanzarote’s Hotel Association, meaning that the sector has capacity to receive visitors from the UK and Ireland among other core international markets.
For the remaining months of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, travellers who stay in a regulated tourist accommodation will have access to complimentary Covid-19 insurance.
The insurance policy covers medical expenses, medical repatriation, and extension of stay in the event of Covid-19 infection.
Restrictions on international travel continue to ease bringing with it an increased demand for flights to the island.
Airlines such as British Airways, Jet2 and EasyJet have all increased weekly flight frequencies even compared to the 2019 winter season.
In the 2019/2020 season there were 123 weekly flights from UK to Lanzarote while in the 2021/2022 season there are 164 per week.
WizzAir announced a new winter route between Doncaster Sheffield and Lanzarote, in time for the October half term.
Turismo Lanzarote revealed plans for a new tourism strategy that sees the destination target premium leisure travellers who are environmentally conscious.
The strategy also looks to restore consumer confidence and position Lanzarote as a safe destination.
New experiences include wine and gastronomy during the winter months, experiences organised by Lanzarote’s Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism, and an emphasis put on new luxury and boutique hotels as well as Lanzarote as a Superyacht destination.
