Work starts on airside development at Edinburgh Airport
Work started this week on a major redevelopment of immigration and baggage reclaim facilities at Edinburgh Airport which will triple capacity for long-hail aircraft.
The £50 million development, which will be phased over the next four years, will include the creation of a second immigration hall and baggage reclaim area, new aircraft stands and air bridges.
The first phase is due to be completed this summer, in time for the June 8 launch of Etihad Airways’ first link between Scotland and Abu Dhabi.
Long-haul traffic at Edinburgh Airport was up almost 90% in 2014, thanks to new routes with Qatar Airways, United Airlines and US Airways, and increased services from Turkish Airlines.
Prime Minister David Cameron visited the airport to hear about the plans on Thursday.
