Wotif.com CEO Entrepreneur of the Year national category winner
Wotif.com ( www.wotif.com ), Australia’s leading accommodation website, proudly announces that Graeme Wood, CEO and co-founder, has been awarded as a national category winner at the 2005 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
The judges – awarding Graeme as national winner in the Technology, Communications, E-commerce and Life Sciences category – commented: “Graeme Wood recognised an opportunity which required innovative thinking and a clear business plan. In just five years, Wotif.com has grown to become a niche business with an impressive business model and outstanding financial returns.”
The national award follows a rigorous regional and national judging process of 25 regional entrepreneurs from around the country, in which Graeme was selected as regional winner in his category in August.
Graeme launched Wotif.com in March 2000, pioneering the selling of accommodation online in Australia. By only selling vacant accommodation into the next few weeks, Wotif.com was able to offer great rates with big savings on a hotel’s normal rate.
With its ease-of-use and instant confirmation for bookings, Wotif.com was the first website to bring live hotel inventory to the retail market, setting a new standard that brought about a significant change in consumer behaviour.
Consumer confidence to book and purchase over the Internet has soared and consumers are reaping the benefits of the booking their short-term accommodation online.
Wotif.com is now Australia’s leading accommodation website, continuing to provide consumers with great accommodation rates at the broadest range of properties throughout Australia and New Zealand.
