Yes! Yes! Meg Ryan diner is top “film venue destination”
A survey by Thomson Holidays, listing film locations that British people most want to visit, has yielded some surprising results.
Katz’ Deli, in New York’s Lower East Side, may not ring many bells with readers – until it is revealed that the diner was the location used for Meg Ryan’s famous “fake orgasm” scene in the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
According to The Times, which reports the story today, a paper arrow still hangs over the exact spot where Billy Crystal, co-star in the film, “squirmed with embarrassment” as Ryan feigned sexual pleasure.
The poll showed New York’s Fifth Avenue as second most popular film location for tourists to visit.
Miles Morgan, marketing director at Thomson, said the survey showed that “cinema sight-seeing” if having an effect on the tourist trade: “Our national obsession with celebrities means that watching stars perform in beautiful locations is no longer enough; we now want to experience the same places first hand.
“With films acting as virtual brochures, they can do much more for bookings than a large-scale marketing campaign.”
