After fire disables ship, guests face extended stay in Turkiye
Cruise guests on Celebrity Infinity are facing an extended delay after an electrical fire cut power to the ship.
They are currently stuck on an unplanned stay in the port of Kuşadası, Turkiye.
The small fire caused a total blackout for several hours.
This meant ‘no communications, no power to rooms, no AC, delayed shows, delayed meals,’ one passenger said.
Guests have now been informed that the ship will have to stay in the port until Friday.
The ship will then sail straight to Athens for its scheduled Saturday disembarkation as planned.
This means the scrapping of scheduled calls in Thessaloniki and Mykonos.
Celebrity Cruises also informed guest of enhanced compensation for the lengthy delay.
It had initially offered refundable onboard credits from $200 to $600 based on the stateroom category.
With the problem still persisting, the cruise line has improved its compensation offer.
Guests will now get 50% of the cruise fare in the form of a refundable Onboard Credit, which can be used during the remainder of the cruise, and 50% of the cruise fare as a Future Cruise Credit.
Additionally, the Shore Excursions team have been offering free tours.
“We thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and flexibility during. Your safety and well-being remain our highest priority, the guest letter added.
