Alaska Airlines plans Orange County-Mexico flights
Alaska Airlines has filed an application to operate Mexico flights from John Wayne Airport, Orange County.
The Seattle based carrier plans to offer services to vacation hotspots Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.
Alaska plans to serve Puerto Vallarta three times a week and Los Cabos four times a week and expects the US Department of Transportation to approve its application within a month.
Airport spokeswoman Jenny Wedge said it is a boost for the local economy as international traffic has been in decline following the end of flights by Mexico-based Interjet last summer.
“It’s important that there will be added services. They are going to be very popular, and it will give more options to travelers from Orange County,” Wedge said.
Wedge expects Alaska’s application to be approved since it already flies to Mexico from Los Angeles, San Diego, Ontario and Palm Springs airports.
