Alternative GDS, Genesis, to launch in US
After a successful launch in Canada, Genesis is coming to the US on 2 May, the company announced.
Genesis says it will then offer the first and only proprietary travel distribution system managed by the global travel agency community.
Genesis president and CEO Bruce Bishins in an open letter to travel agents said “continuing to support the three major GDS’s represented “sheer absurdity.” He called for travel agent support of the move.
“It is time for agencies to focus their formidable sales clout and support an agency-owned booking and point-of-sale system,” he wrote.
He said with a strong underlying XML and open-architecture platform, Genesis offered a host of features via its low fare search and booking tool, FareSpider.
“Genesis is ready to receive your support by providing you with outstanding new products and services, including our flagship low fare search and booking engine FareSpider,” he said.
Genesis also said it would be offering web-based seminars and teleconferences to help agents understand its products and services.
