American Airlines sued over engine fire
American Airlines is facing a lawsuit for ‘endangering lives during a chaotic evacuation’ when an engine burst into flames at Denver Airport last month.
The lawsuit filed in Denver District Court claims American Airlines failed to handle the situation properly and its response was lax even though an engine issue had been identified.
The pilots of Flight 1006 in ‘failed to timely request emergency assistance,’ the suit says.
The complaint alleges AA’s extreme and outrageous conduct for ‘choosing to taxi with an improperly functioning engine.’
The plane landed with an engine issue and chose to taxi toward the gate and not declare an emergency situation.
The engine then burst into flames.
The emergency evacuation was described as chaotic.
“They suffered a range of damages from both physical and emotional and mental,” attorney Jessica McBryant said of passengers.
Back in the terminal, several passengers voiced their concern over the evacuation process.
“What we are doing with these lawsuits is just to make sure that we can try and make things safer for people moving forward,” McBryant added.
