American jet ‘too big for airport’ diverts
An American Airlines flight to Italy had to take a detour as the plane was too large to land at intended destination Naples.
It was instead diverted to Rome Fiumicino Airport and from there passengers completed the journey by bus.
The last minute change to American Airlines flight 780, which departed from Philadelphia, was due to ‘operational limitations’ the airline said.
The road journey takes about three hours.
The plane was diverted to Rome after being in the air for about seven hours.
