Bahamas blog
This time last year I had the opportunity to travel around New Zealand and write about my experiences. Well I am delighted to say I am at it again but this time about 8,000 miles away in the Bahamas. I am sure you are all delighted for me.
"The first part of the Bahamian odyssey is now complete as I have left the cosmopolitan area of Nassau and moved south to Exuma but more of that later. Nassau and its world famous Paradise Island megalithic hotel Atlantis is for many persons an ideal breakaway destination. It has everything you could imagine in a Las Vegas hotel but in the Bahamas. Casinos, bars, restaurants, entertainment, large conference facility and one of the most impressive indoor and outdoor marine life aquariums I have ever seen. The rays that glide around in it are so large they look like they could host a five a side football match and still have room for spectators on the side .If you wish you can go snorkel the waters they swim in .. I should coco.

Elsewhere in Nassau there are heritage attractions, other well know hotel brands such as Riu, Hilton etc.as well as a variety of smaller boutique properties. The latest addition is the Marley Hotel run by the family of Bob and where all the rooms are named after his hits. You could fine yourself staying in ‘easy skanking’, ‘one love’ or ‘lively up yourself’. I would choose ‘kinky reggae’ but that’s just me……shall we move on. In the evening the best fun can be had, is as is often the case, with smaller more local hostelries. In an area known as Arawak Quay there is a ‘strip’ of fish fry restaurants that offer good value , relatively because Nassau is quite expensive, food and lots of entertainment on a weekend. In other islands they would call it ‘Liming’ but not sure about Nassau it’s a bit more grown up for that. And I suppose in a nut shell that’s my impression of Nassau ..grown up, mature, developed.
Now for the outer islands and off to the airport at 5.30am …any sympathy yet ???"
