Bailiffs board Ryanair flight over unpaid court compensation

Monday, 16 Mar, 2026 0

A recent Ryanair flight was briefly held in Austria when bailiffs entered the cabin demanding payment from the airline.

The airline has refused to pay court ordered compensation to a passenger whose flight was delayed.

The bailiffs boarded the Ryanair plane at Linz Airport and demanded payment of €890 in legal costs and compensation.

After crew were unable to pay due to the cashless onboard system, a bailiff fixed a seizure sticker to the cabin.

The flight was then permitted to depart on its scheduled flight to London.

The outstanding payment related to a flight delayed 13 hours in 2024.

The passenger took the airline to court and won the case for a refund, associated expenses and legal costs.

However, Ryanair still hasn’t paid.

“We were informed that there was a pending claim against Ryanair in court and that a bailiff has been instructed to carry out an official act. We accompanied the bailiff to the aircraft, where the bailiff carried out his official duties,” Linz Airport said.

Ryanair has refused to comment on the incident and hasn’t said whether it has now paid the outstanding amount.
