Boeing flags new safety issue for Max 737 aircraft

Plane maker Boeing has alerted airlines to another potential safety issue with the Boeing 737 Max.

It is asking airlines to inspect their 737 Max fleet for loose bolts in the rudder system after Boeing was alerted by an airline.

It said an airline found a bolt with a missing nut in the rudder-control linkage mechanism during planned maintenance.

The rudder system helps to stabilize aircraft in flight.

Boeing wants airlines to check all 737 Max planes globally for any similar problems.

There are nearly 1,400 Max jets in service.

“The issue identified on the particular airplane has been remedied,” Boeing said.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are recommending operators inspect their 737 Max planes and inform us of any findings.”

Boeing has notified the Federal Aviation Administration.

The agency says checks would take about two hours.

Airlines will report their inspection progress to the FAA.

The aircraft suffered a near-two year grounding after two deadly cashes that killed 346 people.

It ended up costing Boeing more than $20 billion.
