British tourist killed in New Zealand
A British woman has reportedly died during a kayaking trip in New Zealand’s South Island. According to the online news provider Ananova, the 19-year-old, who was an experienced kayaker, fell from her boat and became trapped under a rock in the swollen Crooked River, near the town of Rotomanu. The woman’s name and identity has not yet been released, but the website reports that she was boating with two other tourists. One man from Sweden was found alive and had been recovered by rescuers, while another tourist has trekked for two hours to raise the alarm. Local police reportedly confirmed that the woman had been wearing a life jacket and was last seen alive, in the water, after falling from her kayak. Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
