Cancellations still affecting US airports following ‘Snowmageddon’
US flights are still facing disruption today as the East Coast of the US tries to recover from winter storm Jonas.
Hundreds of airports have cancellations including New York airports, Washington and Philadelphia.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a travel ban on Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning as the weather conditions were so treacherous, including all above ground subway trains stopping at 4pm.
3,525 flights in and around the US were cancelled on Sunday and 4,511 were cancelled on Saturday, according to flight data website Flight Aware.
Ten states declared emergencies during the storm and the death toll had reached 29 by Sunday afternoon, making it one of the most deadly snow storms in recent history due to its hurricane-like winds and massive snowfall.
