It is gearing up for a busy Easter holiday period with more than 50,000 flights jetting off over the school holiday period.

That equates to nine million seats, according to the latest Cirium data.

The aviation analytics firm says the top destination from the UK will be Dublin, with 2,021 flights, followed by Amsterdam, Malaga, Alicante and Palma.

London Heathrow is the busiest airport departure point, with 12,093 outbound flights, followed by London Gatwick, Manchester and London Stansted.

It says easyJet is expected to be the busiest airline throughout the Easter holidays, with 10,276 departures from the UK, followed by British Airways and Ryanair.

During the long Easter weekend, 11,282 flights are scheduled to depart UK airports representing over two million seats

Easter Friday will be the busiest day overall for UK departures during the weekend, with nearly 3,000 flights.

Easter departures from UK airports remain about 4% down compared to Easter weekend in 2019.

However, they are up on last year by 6%, Cirium says.

Heathrow Airport will see the largest number of Easter weekend departures at 2,680.
