Disney breaking ground on Star Wars Lands in 2016
Walt Disney Co. chief operating officer Tom Staggs says construction work will begin next year on Disney’s two recently announced Star Wars themed lands.
Two 14-acre lands are planned for Disneyland and Hollywood Studios theme park in Florida.
"This will be I think perhaps the most immersive land we’ve ever built. We want people to feel like they’ve stepped into the world of Star Wars and that’s really sparked our imaginations and it’s got people fired up," said Staggs.
No opening date has been disclosed yet for the two Star Wars Lands.
While experts predict a 2018 opening at the very earliest, guests can get a sneak peek later this year.
‘Star Wars Launch Bay’ will open later in the year at both parks as an ‘interactive experience’ giving fans a taste of the new Star Wars film ‘The Force Awakens’ set for release in December.
It will feature character meet-and-greets, memorabilia and film props.
