Expense-minded travelers are still going places
The economy is not keeping travelers at home during this holiday season but many are opting to cut their trips short or even stay with family and friends to avoid hotel bills, according to a new study.
Almost one-third of travelers say those are two options, says AOL Travel’s new poll of 1,001 Internet users asked about travel plans.
Other highlights of the study:
• Forty percent say the economy is "somewhat" affecting their plans, while 18 percent believe the economy affected them "very much."
• Fifty-five percent say they’ll cut back on expensive activities due to the economy.
• Seventy percent say they’ve had their holiday plans disrupted by airline delays and cancellations with almost 7 percent never actually making it to their destinations.
Despite the money-saving strategies, travel experts are predicting a robust holiday travel season.
