FAA to hold summit with airlines over flight disruptions
Federal Aviation Administration officials will hold a meeting with major US airlines to discuss delays and cancellations.
The FAA will hold a two-day summit with airline bosses.
Representatives from Spirit Airlines, American Airlines and JetBlue are expected to attend.
Airline schedules were hit hard earlier this month due to bad weather in Florida and air traffic issues, as well as short staffing.
“The limiting factor on the East Coast has been weather during a time of peak demand,” the FAA said.
“Nobody could have anticipated that Florida in April would have 115 hours of ATC delays for that month, compared to 22 in 2019,” JetBlue Airways president Joanna Geraghty said.
These are challenging times, and I think we’re doing the responsible thing by taking capacity down and rightsizing it.”
About 1,200 flights at Orlando were canceled this month, and one-third of all flights were delayed.
