First-time cruise event generates $9 million in sales
For anyone who wonders how the World’s Largest Cruise Night (WLCN) fared, the answer is an estimated $9 million in cruise sales.
“The incredible amount at WLCN events cements the fact that cruising is hot and getting hotter by the minute,” said Andy Stuart, chairman of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
The WLNC was the largest one-day travel agency initiative ever launched, according to CLIA officials.
Nearly 25,000 consumers participated in events, which agents estimated will yield 7,273 bookings.
“WLNC marked the first time travel agents joined together to promote cruising’s popularity and broad appeal — all in a single, 24-hour period,” according to CLIA.
Since 1980, the cruise industry has had an average annual passenger growth of 8%, CLIA said.
