Flight from New York makes emergency landing after bomb threat
A passenger jet has made an emergency landing in Iceland after US officials received an anonymous call warning there was a bomb onboard.
The threat was relayed to the pilot of the Aeroflot airraft flying from New York to Moscow by Russian air traffic controllers and the crew requested to divert to Reykjavik.
The A330 landed safely in Reykjavik this morning and all 200 passengers were evacuated. AP reported on Thursday that a thorough search of the flight turned up no explosives or questionable material.
The anonymous caller warned there were five suitcases on board containing explosives which would detonate when the plane reached Moscow.
In a separate incident earlier today, Russian special forces searched an aircraft set to fly from Voronezh to Moscow after an anonymous caller contacted the Voronezh Airport with the threat. No explosives were found.
